Novell blew my mind

First of all, I have to say, jocelyn from ximian gave an excellent presentation today, it was quite informative too because I have never used XD2, just seen pictures and a bit of it in action.

Secondly, this novell roadshow was amazing, not only did the novell parts amaze me, but it was incredible to see how integrated ximian was into their business model after only two months. It will be even better to see the actual results of this integration.

Basically, I took a couple things away from it:

1) Novell is 100% committed to open source and linux.

2) Novell is 100% committed to interop between linux and their existing product base. This includes a new evolution connector for Groupwise, and support for iFolders, and all the important pieces of Netware6.5 being run AND consumed on linux.

3) Novell is 120% committed to mono, i mean really really stoked about it. They are planning some products using it (apparently), and the techish guy I spoke to said that all the developers inside Novell are drooling over this wonderful piece of tech. His exact words were: 'They talk about it like it's the holy grail or something of that magnitude'. This was excellent for me to hear, as it affirmed that a project I love wont be polluted by a big company trying to make it something that, well, for the lack of a better word, just plain sucks

Obviously I'm pretty stoked about this stuff here, and we, at my company, are looking at using groupwise instead of exchange in the near future (when it becomes stable enough to host it on a linux environment, and when the groupwise connector comes out. All in all, it was an amazingly informative use of a morning especially as it came with free food and a potential business client.
