  • I’ve finally assured myself that I’m not going completely insane. I’ve been hearing–every once in a while–the sound of a rotary phone being dialed. I just heard it again, distinctly from the sound of the laundry room, and snatched the phone receiver just as it ended. Something was dialing the phone…

    It turns out there’s a phone jack just beneath my hydro meter. It dials in to report its usage! Awesome!

  • I finally got around to starting to reverse engineer the protocol that the blackberry uses to talk to the desktop software via its serial cradle. It’s complex enough to be challenging, but not so hard that I’m not figuring bits out. It’s fun, but it really grates on me that I’m helping them to sell more hardware after they refuse to release protocol specs. Shit heads.
  • A girl slipped on some ice in front of me, and fell so quickly that both mittens went flying off and hit a passing bus, 5m away. It was quite a sight. She was fine.
